How we support Family’s
Every family is different, and support should reflect the individual needs, strengths, and goals of the child and family.
Rising Sun Educational Advocacy offers guidance and support to help parents better understand the special education system, review school documentation and IEPs, prepare for meetings and IPRC processes, organize concerns and questions, and explore their options.
We also look for ways to collaborate and connect families with people, resources, and supports that may be appropriate for their individual circumstances. When appropriate, this may include working alongside schools, professionals, community organizations, and other members of a child’s support team.
Our role is to walk alongside families, provide advocacy support when needed, and help parents find their voice and build confidence in advocating for their child.
We may be part of your family’s journey for a time, but you are your child’s advocate for life — or until your child is able to find and use their own voice. Our goal is to help families build the understanding, confidence, and connections they can carry forward.
Our Approach
Rising Sun believes advocacy starts with listening and understanding. We take the time to understand the child, the family, their strengths, needs, priorities, and goals.
We believe parents bring knowledge of their child that cannot be captured in a report or assessment. Our role is to help bring that perspective forward while helping families understand the systems and supports around them.
We believe in collaboration, not confrontation. Whenever possible, we look for ways to build respectful relationships, find common ground, and bring the right people together around the child and family.
We also believe that being organized can make advocacy stronger. Keeping track of important information, notes, records, questions, and conversations can help families identify priorities, recognize patterns, and feel more prepared when navigating the next step.
Every child’s path is different. We remain open to possibilities, individualized goals, and different ways of moving forward. Sometimes progress takes persistence, flexibility, and a willingness to keep looking for what might work.
Our approach is simple: listen, understand, organize, collaborate, and keep looking for possibilities.
